![]() 6:23.) The wages of sins that are not repented of is death-death to man’s potential godliness, death to man’s opportunity for eternal life with his Heavenly Father. 123.) The apostle Paul taught, “The wages of sin is death.” ( Rom. Lee gave this counsel: “The heaviest burden that one has to bear in this life is the burden of sin.” ( Ensign, July 1973, p. 3:23.) “Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out.” ( Acts 3:19.) “For I the Lord cannot look upon sin with the least degree of allowance.” ( D&C 1:31.) It is written in the scriptures, “All have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.” ( Rom. Jesus said, “No unclean thing can enter into his kingdom therefore nothing entereth into his rest save it be those who have washed their garments in my blood, because of their faith, and the repentance of all their sins, and their faithfulness unto the end.” ( 3 Ne. Jesus Christ lived his life and gave his life so that man might have the gospel and repent and prepare himself to live with God in the kingdom of heaven. Repentance will stop the devil and keep him from entering the hearts of men. The devil’s mission and goal is to destroy man’s potential godliness and his preparation to be again with his Heavenly Father. The devil is strongly against man’s repenting and preparing himself for the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, he is as though there was no redemption made, being an enemy to God and also is the devil an enemy to God.” ( Mosiah 16:5.) The great prophet Abinadi gave this warning: “But remember that he that persists in his own carnal nature, and goes on in the ways of sin and rebellion against God, remaineth in his fallen state and the devil hath all power over him. “But if they would not repent they must suffer even as I.” ( D&C 19:16–17.) I repeat, “But if they would not repent they must suffer even as I.” Jesus taught, “For behold, I, God, have suffered these things for all, that they might not suffer if they would repent He suffered and died for us, yet if we do not repent, all his anguish and pain on our account are futile.” ( The Miracle of Forgiveness, Bookcraft, Inc., 1969, p. Kimball said, “When we think of the great sacrifice of our Lord Jesus Christ and the suffering he endured for us, we would be ingrates if we did not appreciate it so far as our power made it possible. His atonement and teachings made it possible for me and for you to repent and to be prepared to enter into the kingdom of heaven. The atoning sacrifice of Jesus Christ, the Savior, made it possible for each individual to receive forgiveness of his sins. Without it, no one can … progress.” ( Gospel Ideals, Improvement Era, 1953, p. ![]() McKay, when speaking on the importance of repentance, said, “Every principle and ordinance of the gospel of Jesus Christ is significant and important in contributing to the progress, happiness, and eternal life of man, but there is none more essential to the salvation of the human family than the divine and eternally operative principle, repentance. 3:2.) Repentance is a divine principle and is required for man’s salvation into the kingdom of heaven. ![]() We need to always remember that God will always keep His promises in His timing. My dear brothers and sisters, the first uttered words of the Prince of Peace, as recorded in the New Testament, are “Repent … for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.” ( Matt. God tells us that He is patient, wanting every one of us to know Him. ![]() It may seem like it is taking a long time, and our situation has not changed, but in reality, God may be working behind the scenes that we can not see from our perspective. Peter tells us that God is not slow in keeping His promises as we understand slowness. “But, beloved, do not forget this one thing, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.” (2 Peter 3:8) He is not limited by hours in a day or by the number of days in a week. Peter tells us that time is very different for God. “The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.” (2 Peter 3:9) We sometimes experience doubt and even try to control things on our own when we do not see God at work in our time frame. Have you ever prayed for something with an immediate need, only to feel like you waited forever to see the answer? Things do not happen just because we want them to. ![]()
